It’s the 1960s. Soul and R&B sounds were saturating the air-waves; major record labels like Motown, Stax, Atlantic and King were churning out incredible dance records, hit after hit, year after year.  Aretha Franklin, Ike & Tina Turner, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, the Temptations and Stevie Wonder, these were the kings and queens of Soul, these were the legends of their time.  Everyone wanted to be part of it.  No-one could refuse it.  All aboard the Soul Train!

Join Stratosfunk as they take you on a journey to pay homage to the Soul and R&B artists of the 1960s. The expanded 11-piece band’s toe-tappin’ rhythm section combined with a blistering horn section meet a front row of powerhouse vocalists and gorgeous Go-Go dancers.

DJ Agent Double-O Soul and King & Peas the Soul Purpose DJs will be spinning vintage vinyl to get the party started and then keep it going after the show. Check out pic below!

We challenge you to remain seated during this event.  Once you’re aboard the Soul Train, dancing is inevitable.

Add some soul to your Thursday nights when nine piece high-energy band Stratosfunk hit Malt Supper Club in Mt Lawley on 8 and 22 November. Influenced by the Motown sounds of the 60s and early 70s, Stratosfunk have been sharing their love of Soul and entertaining audiences with their engaging performances, virtuosic solos and charm while paying tribute to the soul and rhythm and blues greats like Aretha Franklin, The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, Ike and Tina Turner, Otis Redding, to name a few! With retro dance moves and style to match, their soulful sounds will have you up dancing from the first song!

ADAM HALL AND THE VELVET PLAYBOYS Thursday 15 November I

International trumpeter and singer of note, Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys return to Malt Supper Club on Thursday 15 November. Dedicated to delivering an exciting live show, this electric six piece Perth band captures a mood reminiscent of the Rat Pack or Louis Prima in Las Vegas in the 50s – swingin’ jazz, rockin’ rhythm and blues and good ol’ boogie woogie. Their repertoire also features more contemporary music in a vein similar to artists as diverse as James Brown, Ray Charles & Harry Connick Jr. The VP’s have long been a favourite of Perth’s legion of young swing dancers and will have you jumping and bopping in no time.

Swing into Malt Supper Club on Thursday 29 November and explore the nostalgic sounds of yesteryear with the Darling Buds of May. A favourite amongst the swing dance community this sextet’s punchy horns and swingin’ rhythm section with the sultry tones of Jessie Gordon will have you swooning in your seats and dancing in the aisles. Specialising in 1920s Dixieland jazz, 1940s and 1950s swing, 1950s and 1960s rock ‘n’ roll and blues, you’ll also end up and singing along to your favourite retro songs.
