This has been a very busy week for us all at Big Sky, with artists performing all over the state and country.
At Curtin University this week we have had:
The incredible ZAP Circus
Two’s A Crowd – a guitar/vocal duo and the next brain child of the wonderful Reilly Craig,
Gabriella’s Vibe, the stunning Gabriella Scornavacche and Valerio Fiorini and…
the brassy Stratohorns.
At a WA Mine Site, Australian Netballer Andrea Gilmore held a Netball Clinic and this weekend, to liven things up even further, The Jonny Taylor 4-piece band is performing.
Guitarist and singer Bevan Spiers is performing at A QLD Mine Site this weekend and back in Perth 2 beautiful and enormous butterflies will be performing at a Spring Fest!
Enjoy the beautiful days to come.

There are so many exciting things happening in the Big Sky office at the moment that it has taken this long to sit down and write about the wonderful artists who performed around the state last week.
Curtin Uni is fast becoming my pick of places to be – whether or not you study there! Stuck for somewhere to go for lunch? If you’re close to Curtin, I’d pop in there!
On Tuesday the beautifully be-winged butterfly stilts roved the crowds as part of Spring Day.
On Wednesday the stunning powerhouse that is Libby Hammer performed with her Trio at The Pines, truly one of WA’s best jazz vocalists.
On Thursday, the incredible classical guitarist, Federico Chianucci, performed his beautiful arrangements of folk, country, classical and jazz.
The WA Mine Site played host to the gorgeous Dove Duo last weekend and The Natalia Trio performed at the Pride of Australia medal event.
So much more I could talk about but with this week now half over I’l leave this as just a little sample of the past week’s delights!

Father’s Day and The Blues

Spring has been heralded in fine form this week with entertainment galore across the state. But with Father’s Day this Sunday, it’s the weekend that is shaping up to be most exciting. The City of Subiaco is hosting a huge Father’s Day event on Sunday which will include the talents of a face-painter from High Voltage, the hilarious and magical Mario The (Almost) Magnificent and will also include The Forest Walk from 10am – 2pm.
The WA Mine Site is going to enjoy a huge weekend with the Blues Festival. The Morgan Baine Band, Les Karsky and Brett Mosely all playing in the stellar line-up.
Here’s a little info on them all to make you wish you were there!
Morgan Bain is a multi award winning songwriter, performer and vocalist whose live performances are captivating and reveal a sensibility that showcase his skills in a fusion of style that is unmistakably his own with a mix of Soul, Blues and Rock.
The multi-instrumentalist who at just 20 years of age is blowing audiences away with his talent already has a few EP’s under his belt produced at The Wastelands with ARIA award winning producer Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe) and Soundbaker Studio with Rob Agostini.
Winner of WEST AUSTRALIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY (WAM) Song of the Year awards in 2 011, 2012 and 2014 along with winning a WAMi for “2013 Blues and Roots Act of the Year”, he also reached final status in the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING COMPETITION (US) in 2012 and 2014 and UNSIGNED ONLY (US) as well as nationally selected as 1 of 3 songwriters in the TELSTRA ROAD TO DISCOVERY. The accolades continue with him winning the SingerUniverse 2014 “BEST VOCALIST OF THE MONTH” in California (US) and making it to Finals in the 2014 John Lennon Songwriting Competition (US).
Lez Karski Trio
Lez’s unique guitar and vocal delivery is a regular feature on the Australian Blues scene. Sydney in the 80’s found Lez as a musician/record producer, working with Flash & The Pan, Midnight Oil, Spy v Spy, The Triffids, Yothu Yindi, Jeff Lang and many others, whilst playing the blues with The Hippos, Bondi Cigars, and The Foreday Riders.
Lez moved to Adelaide in the 90’s to form ‘The Donkeys’ who appeared at The Goulburn Blues and Bridgetown Blues Festivals, and still feature at selected venues.
Moving once again to Western Australia, Lez played with ‘The Nervous Investors’ nationally for over a decade.
He’s performed with the late great Johnny Johnson’s band, playing the Narooma and East Coast Blues festivals and appeared on Johnny’s ‘Live at the Basement’ TV special. He’s been in Chris Cain’s band at the Narooma festival three years running, and twice with Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne’s backing band.
In 2007 ‘the Nervous Investors’ toured through Germany, Holland & Poland, where Lez represented Australia at the Wroclaw ‘Thanks Jimi’ 1st of May guitar festival, helping to establish a new Guinness record for the number of guitarists (1881) playing a Hendrix classic.
BRET MOSLEY has toured tirelessly across the U.S.—200+ dates per year—for most of the past decade. His unreservedly original, deeply authentic sound has garnered an audience ranging from cowhands to bankers, from rastas to cops. Before releasing first record, Mosley played on NYC subway platforms for 10 years, where a fan once said his sound was was “dead center between Hank Williams, Sr. and The Ohio Players”.
Rarely could an artist be said to transcend, yet include, the most raw and real elements of hill country blues, roots rock, folk, soul and funk. Nevertheless—with bone-deep authenticity—that’s exactly what Bret Mosley does, wrestling deftly with longing, belonging, and world-weariness…on the way home to hope & grace
There it is folks – what a wonderful weekend lies ahead!
