Originally commissioned by Black Swan State Theatre Company as part of their commitment to creating theatre for younger audiences, Shakespeare Shenanigans is the brainchild of professional actors Andy Fraser and Stuart Halusz.

A combination of two of Andy and Stuart's greatest loves in the theatre - stage combat and Shakespeare, this thrilling one-hour performance takes you on an action-packed journey through some of the most famous fight scenes from the works of the world's greatest writer.

From a catfight in A Midsummer Night's Dream to the servants brawl in Romeo and Juliet; from Macbeth's showdown to Hamlet's revenge and a medley of deaths in between. Shakespeare Shenanigans will entertain and surprise students and teachers alike, as they embark on a sprawling, brawling ride.

In amongst the grunts, groans and clash of swords, the audience will experience a wide range of Elizabethan theatrical conventions, including verse-speaking, casting and text work. The links to the current curriculums for English and Drama have never been presented quite like this!

"It was great! We had about 100 kids there from Yrs 7 to 12 and they were enthralled. The pace was excellent. (We) were talking about the mix of historical info and its delivery. We thought it was clever to do it over costume changes - the kids realised what was going on and so were more receptive to listening to the history. The use of humour was essential and really lifted the whole show. We loved the modern upgrades. Both Stuart and Andy worked beautifully with our 'volunteers' and made them feel very much at home in the final scene. Thanks to all of you. It was a fabulous experience for our kids." - John Foreman. Drama Teacher, Wanneroo Secondary College.

"I just wanted to thank you so much for all your assistance in organising the Shakespeare Shenanigans’ visit to our school today. We had 200 Drama students attend the show in our gym and I have simply never seen them all (boys and girls) so attentive and fixed on the dramatic actions of Andy and Stewart. From start to finish, the actors absolutely owned both the stage and their audience! The play is so contextually informative and ragingly energetic and comedic - I think many of the kids had never seen anything like it. For some it was their first play, for others, it showed highlights from their favourite parts of Shakespeare. The most common favourite moments from the students included the wrestling, the Midsummer cat-fight and the high energy sword fights. The blood caused a particular gasp from the kids! Andy and Stuart also made my four Year 8 volunteer actors feel so at home on the stage, they were all glowing after the show! This is such a great performance for all Drama and English (even History) students to see to really bring Shakespeare’s work to life. I have had a few students say that they can’t wait to study Shakespeare next year! I definitely recommend this performance to all schools who provide these subject areas for study! Thanks again to you and the actors for providing this awesome show!" - Michelle Snedden and the students of Kingsway Christian College.

“I wanted to thank Stuart and Andy for the fabulous performance on Friday at MSHS. Staff and students were absolutely captivated and the feedback in classes was very positive. Thank you all.” – Caroline Capes, English Department MSHS
