TRIO ALEGRA

TRIO ALEGRA plays an ethnic whirlwind of music from along the gypsy trail and beyond: an eclectic mix of East European influences (Gypsy, Klezmer, Balkan, Greek, Russian) mixed with a good dose of Swing, Latin tangos, French waltzes, Italian taratellas and even some Bluegrass!
On the nostalgic edge of the Mediterranean, at times the music is reminiscent of a Fellini film, at others, an evening in a French cabaret, and more, a small band of gypsies - one can only guess where from.
Virtuosic, classic, folk-pop and jazzy all at the same time, they present an ever-changing mix of hot off the press original arrangements.
With Eddie Staszak on Piano Accordion, Laura Mitchell on Violin and Corrine Brokken on Double Bass, this acclaimed and talented trio will keep you riveted with their beautiful and evocative music.
TRIO ALEGRA & THE VELVETTES: Trio Alegra expands to form an exciting new big band sound with luscious three part hamonires, original lyrics and the dricing percussion of Djembe and snare drum.
The Trio maintains their fabulous mix of Euro Cafe favourites and original songbook material, hones and perfected by eight years of gigging, but are now joined by a variety of talented musicians. The Velvettes are a fabulous harmony due, and when combined with the band's violinist/vocalist Laura Mitchell bring luscious three part harmonies to the Trio's sound. Vocalist Sharon Wilson - Imamdin's indie-rock background and original lyrics add a new dimension to the band, and weaving luscious vocal harmonies with Sharon is Emma Birklett of the Last Supper Club.
World Music percussionist Caryn Sullican rounds out the band, fleshing out an already impressive sound with hypnotic rythms and driving beats. A variety of other guest musicians are available upon request or in the case that any of the above musicians are not availanle upon request or in the case that any of the above musicians are not available for particular gigs, including world music wind player Mark Cain and jazz/classical Alex Millier.
