Renowned in the fashion world for his exquisite gowns, Aurelio Costarella is a Perth-based designer and couturier whose work has been showcased on runways around the world.
Aurelio’s creations have been worn by a plethora of Australian and international celebrities including Rhianna, Cate Blanchett, Dita Von Teese, Charlize Theron, Tyra Banks, Sharon Stone, Andy McDowell, Tina Arena and Princess Mary of Denmark.
In July 2015, after a two month stay at the Perth Clinic, Aurelio decided that it was time to talk openly about his journey with Mental Health challenges. To raise awareness around mental health, Aurelio told his story exclusively to journalist, Amanda Keenan for a 4 page ‘West Australian Magazine’ feature story. Aurelio was appointed an Ambassador for Lifeline in July 2015, was a keynote speaker at their Black Diamond Gala in August 2015 and continues to speak and advocate for those living with Mental Health issues. Having experienced harm and debilitating side effects caused by the prescribing of 23 psychiatric medications and subsequently spending 5 years tapering from a cocktail of psychoactive medications, Aurelio has been particularly vocal about his experience. Speaking publicly and about poly-pharmacy and lobbying the Therapeutic Goods Administration and Government around Consumer Medicine Information and informed Consent.
