Kira Gunn is a versatile free-lance harpist with broad industry experience across the Perth music scene. She has a passion for growing as a musician and has developed a wide range of skills to fit multiple musical contexts. In her time at WAAPA, Kira has composed and performed with students and professionals from the classical, contemporary, jazz, singer-songwriter, composition, acting and performance-making courses. She has recorded and debuted original music in WAAPA venues, and hopes to start releasing originals at the end of 2022.
Kira has substantial experience playing at weddings, private and corporate events, funerals, school performances, children’s story-telling shows and more, a testament to her flexibility and adaptability as a musician. She works in this field with groups including Champagne Duo, Les Trois Amies, and Dolce Ensembles. Kira also believes in the power music has to heal and bless others and has done extensive community work including playing at nursing homes, fundraising events, festivals, markets and numerous church events and services.
Kira plays professionally as a session musician, recording artist, soloist, accompanist, band member and orchestral harpist. She has performed with groups including but not limited to the WA Philharmonic Orchestra, Perth Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Collective, West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra, WA Wind Symphony and WA Youth Orchestra. She performs in musicals, ballet, Crown productions, opera, concerts, chamber shows, Fringe shows and more. She is currently a member of bands Bouria (Iranian music with Esfandiar Shamir, Kate Pass and Steve Richter), and Neshama Selah (original music with WAAPA peers).
